About me
I am a linguist at the Department of Linguistics of Ghent University, where I am a member of the research groups GLLAS (Ghent Language Learning and Assessment) and MULTIPLES (Research Centre for Multilingualism and Language Practices in Society). My research interests include second language acquisition, speech perception, phonetics and phonology.
In my doctoral research, funded by the Research Foundation Flanders (FWO) and supervised by Prof. dr. Ellen Simon and Prof. dr. Holger Mitterer, I examine how phonetic variation in native and non-native English accents affects intelligibility and spoken word recognition for non-native listeners of English.
Before that, I worked as a predoctoral researcher on a project on the comprehensibility, accentedness and intelligibility of native and non-native accents of English to English as a Foreign Language learners in Flanders. In my MA research, I investigated how Flemish listeners perceive and adapt to L2 accented Dutch.
During my PhD, I was a visiting researcher at the MARCS Institute for Brain, Behaviour and Development (Western Sydney University) and at Universitat Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona.
